A Russian man has been arrested in Norway after crossing the border. – He has been a Russian soldier, says the man's defense attorney Trond P Biti to VG.

Grense Jakobselv is the border river between Norway and Russia. A Russian man was arrested in Norway on Friday morning after crossing the border.

The man was discovered by Norwegian border guards who alerted the police. The arrest was uneventful.

The man was interrogated for several hours.

– He has been a Russian soldier. He has been in Ukraine and made a decision that he no longer wanted to participate in further warfare. He made a choice to go to Norway, says the man's defense attorney Trond P Biti to VG.

According to Biti, it was "reasons of conscience that led him to make a choice at a given time."

The man has been charged with crossing the border outside an approved border crossing point.
