Retired Police Officer Tore Hedman Murdered in His Borlänge Home

Tore Hedman, a retired police officer, was tragically murdered in his own home in Borlänge.

Tore Hedman was found dead in his garden in May. He had lived in the house with his wife, who passed away a few years ago. Somehow, the perpetrator managed to reach him there—exactly how the murder occurred remains unclear.

– He sent a text message to his sister at 20:11, and then surveillance footage showed the perpetrator taking Tore's car, explains relative Anders Hedman, who was first interviewed by BorlängeTidning's Jerry Brodin.

When he failed to contact his sister in the morning, as they had agreed, she became worried.

– They had daily contact, says Anders Hedman.

The sister alerted the neighbors, who went to the house. Seeing the chaos inside Tore Hedman's home, they called the police. A suspect was soon apprehended.

The man has a long history of substance abuse and criminal activity. He was first convicted of a crime at the age of 17 and has been forcibly treated for his addiction as an adult.

Borlänge Municipality to Investigate

He has 16 entries in the criminal record between 2011 and 2024. The convictions include theft, assault, minor drug offenses, and drunk driving, as previously reported by Expressen. Last year, he was charged with aggravated violation of a woman's integrity, reports SVT Nyheter.

– The perpetrator was well-known to both the police and social services, notes Anders Hedman.

Now, he and the rest of the family are demanding that the alerts on the day of the murder and their handling be investigated by the municipality.

The large Borlänge family has suffered a heavy loss. Tore began his career in the hardware trade in Borlänge but later decided to continue his studies and became a police officer.

He was injured early on and subsequently worked as an investigator in the economic sector, Anders Hedman recounts.

– He was with the police long enough to receive a medal. A very calm and peaceful person, not a police officer who belonged to the baseball league. Both he and his wife helped people a lot, says Anders Hedman.

Erik Nises, chairman of the municipal board, S, says an investigation is underway.

– If a person is known to the authorities, then it is natural for the family to have questions. I also believe that both the police and the region have a responsibility. But the municipality will look into what alerts came in and how they were handled, he says.

The detained man's lawyer, Anders Ericson, states that the man denies the murder but admits to the suspicion of aggravated assault and gross negligence causing another's death.

What does your client think about the municipality's handling being investigated?

– It's not something we want to comment on yet, says Anders Ericson.

Relative Anders Hedman recalls buying fishing gear from Tore Hedman at the hardware store as a child.

– I wanted to catch the old pike. For a boy of seven or eight, Tore was naturally someone to look up to.
