Per Svensson, a celebrated cultural journalist and author, has passed away after a period of illness.
"It is with great sorrow that we received the news of Per's passing," writes Daniel Sandström, publisher at Albert Bonniers Förlag, in a statement to TT.
"He embodied the best of Swedish public life. In him were education, language, enlightenment, conversation – the civilized struggle for what is right, the dream of an open society. Per was a friend, a valued colleague, and an intellectual role model. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten."
Per Svensson previously served as the political editor of Dagens Nyheter, culture editor of Expressen, and editor-in-chief of Kvällsposten. He authored around ten books.
In 1997, he was awarded the Stora Journalistpriset and in 2023, the August Prize for non-fiction for his biography "Zorn – a life, a time."
Per Svensson grew up in Täby outside Stockholm but moved to Malmö in 1980. He was 68 years old.
