Rapper C. Gambino Shot Dead: Three Men Convicted
Rapper C. Gambino, whose real name was Karar Ramadan, was shot dead in an ambush in a parking garage. Hassan Rabeie, Fatjam Vardari, and Vide Atterstam have now been convicted for aiding the murder. Rabeie receives a life sentence.
– The shooting had the character of a pure execution and caused severe suffering for the victim, says Chief Judge Anne Rapp.
Late in the evening of June 4 last year, Karar Ramadan, known by his stage name C. Gambino, was murdered in a parking garage in Hisingen, Gothenburg. After the murder, the perpetrators fled. The getaway car was set on fire.
Four men were charged with involvement in the murder. Three are now convicted for aiding.
Two of the accused, Hassan Rabeie, 22, and Fatjam Vardari, 21, were charged with murder in the first instance and aiding murder in the second.
Since it is not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Rabeie and Vardari carried out the shooting, they are convicted for aiding the murder. Rabeie receives a life sentence. According to the district court, he was instrumental in planning and preparing for the murder.
“Must Have Been Clear”
“Overall, Hassan Rabeie's actions [...] cannot be perceived in any other way than that he had a leading role in planning and preparing for the murder,” the verdict summarizes.
Vardari is sentenced to twelve and a half years in prison, as his actions before the murder “cannot be said to have had any decisive significance for the execution of the murder.” However, he was with Hassan Rabeie scouting the garage before the murder and was involved in the plans.
“That the shooting was carefully planned and that it was part of the conflict between the criminal networks in southern and northern Biskopsgården must have been clear to Fatjam Vardari,” the verdict states.
Gang Connections
A third man, Vide Atterstam, 20, is convicted of three crimes: aiding murder, gross protection of a criminal, and gross damage through arson. Atterstam is suspected of buying the car from which the shots were fired. He was also, according to the court's assessment, well aware that the murder would be carried out and is therefore sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison.
The verdict states, among other things, that “his connection to the criminal network in southern Biskopsgården” and his actions leading up to the shooting cannot lead to:
“... any other conclusion than that it was clear to Vide Atterstam what would happen and that the shooting was part of the conflict between the criminal networks in southern and northern Biskopsgården.”
“A Pure Execution”
A fourth man is convicted of gross protection of a criminal and gross damage through arson.
All four have denied the charges.
– Several aggravating circumstances have been considered in determining the sentence. The murder of the 26-year-old man was carefully planned and characterized by particular cunning. The shooting had the character of a pure execution and caused severe suffering for the victim, says Chief Judge Anne Rapp in a statement.
The murder is believed to be linked to the gang conflict between northern and southern Biskopsgården in Gothenburg. However, the police have not been able to determine a clear motive, and there is no evidence that C. Gambino himself committed crimes in the gang environment. However, according to evidence presented in court, he associated with gang-affiliated individuals.
