Police Use Grenades in Standoff with Suspected NMR Member
A 35-year-old man from Frösön, suspected of being a member of the violent NMR, faced police action that involved the use of grenades. The incident, which began with threats to the police, led to the revocation of his gun license.
According to Aftonbladet, the man is a member of the Nordic Resistance Movement, a Nazi organization. His reaction was to call the police and threaten them.
– I then decided to arrest him, says Emil Tiberg, the lead investigator, to Expressen.
The operation to apprehend the man and seize his weapons began on Wednesday evening. It wasn't until 2:45 AM on Thursday that the police declared the operation over. The situation had become chaotic enough that the police had to use grenades.
Explosions Heard in Frösön
“The explosions heard in the area during the operation were from police distraction grenades,” the police report. Aftonbladet claims the man fired at the police, which has not been confirmed.
– As far as I know, no one was seriously injured, says Emil Tiberg.
The man will be questioned on Thursday afternoon.
Aftonbladet reports that the man's gun license was revoked due to his alleged NMR membership. Emil Tiberg confirms the revocation but not the Nazi affiliation.
– This is one of the things we will investigate.
The man from Frösön is already suspected of making serious threats against an officer following Wednesday's phone call.
– More charges are likely, says Emil Tiberg, who is leading the investigation.
