Police Report: Shootings Decrease but Explosions Surge in Sweden
The number of shootings continues to decline. Compared to the same period last year, they have nearly halved, according to new statistics from the police.
Since 2022, shootings in Sweden have decreased year by year. So far this year, 84 shootings have occurred in Sweden, down from 148 shootings during the same period in 2024.
The statistics for shootings in 2025 include the school attack in Örebro where ten people were killed.
However, explosions are on the rise. In the first half of 2025, 104 explosions occurred, compared to 52 explosions during the same period last year, according to the half-year statistics.
The police have increased the resolution of deadly violence in network environments from about 20–30 percent to about 60 percent in recent years.
"This is part of the explanation for why we see fewer shootings," says August Knutsson, operational coordinator at the police's national operations center, in a press release on the police's website.
