Police Officer Mocks Man on Camera: Incident Sparks Outrage
Police Officer Mocks Man on Camera
The man was about to sign a fine on the police officer's mobile. Suddenly, a message from a police colleague appeared on the screen: "A thousand kronor poorer he becomes 😎😎."
A police officer should not mock and humiliate, says the man with the fine, who has now reported the incident to the Ombudsman.
Last weekend, a man was stopped by police in central Halmstad. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Expressen that he was stopped for driving on a road where traffic was prohibited.
He received a fine of 1,000 kronor, which he accepted. But when a female officer handed over the mobile for him to sign the fine, the message appeared on the screen.
"A thousand kronor poorer he becomes 😎😎," it read.
He asked who the sender was and began filming. The male officer present admitted it was he who had sent the message.
– It's really stupid. It's offensive, and you feel insulted. A police officer in uniform should protect the people and ask how they are doing. Not laugh, mock, and humiliate citizens, says the fined man.
Police Response: "Why Not?"
In the video, you can hear him in the car asking who the sender is, and the male officer responds, "It's me." When asked why he wrote that, the officer replies, "Why not? You become a little poorer."
– It's serious. If you behave this way over a fine, which is an everyday thing, how do you behave towards other people who commit more serious crimes?, says the man who was stopped.
Spreads on TikTok
The video has been shared on TikTok, where it has over 300,000 views and 500 comments. In the comments section, the police's actions are called "abuse of power," "unprofessional," and "misconduct."
The man has reported the incident to the Ombudsman.
Responding to Criticism
Local police area chief Gustav Rosén Zetterberg has seen the film after hearing about the incident from several sources, both internally and on social media. He says the police have the opportunity to communicate in various ways during operations, including in writing.
– But when we carry out official actions, we must be professional and not write things that can be perceived as petty, regardless of who sees it, he says.
According to Gustav Rosén Zetterberg, the incident will lead to discussions with the involved officer.
– This is something I take to heart as the person responsible for the police area, and we will talk more about it internally in dialogue with employees and group leaders, learn from it, and discuss how to write. No one should feel that something is written that can be perceived as offensive or mocking in any way.
The police officer has declined to comment on the incident.
