Pitch Invader at Gamla Ullevi to Face Charges
The individual who stormed the pitch and attacked Öster's Sebastian Starke Hedlund will be prosecuted. This was confirmed by prosecutor Mats Ihlbom to GP.
– It's hard to get better evidence than live TV footage, he says.
The pitch invader shocked the entire Swedish football community when he entered the field during the match between IFK Göteborg and Öster, aiming a punch at Öster's Sebastian Starke Hedlund. The center-back dodged the blow, but the match was interrupted for over an hour before it resumed, with the visiting team Öster winning 1-0.
Last week, IFK Göteborg was reported to the disciplinary committee and now risks point deductions and playing in front of empty stands.
Earlier this week, prosecutor Mats Ihlbom stated that the civil investigation against the teenager is nearing its conclusion.
Announcement: Pitch Invader to be Charged
– The investigators are compiling the investigation and will send it to me as soon as they are done. Then I will review it and file charges, Ihlbom told Expressen.
Now the police investigation is complete, and Mats Ihlbom hopes to file charges by the middle of next week.
– The charges include violations of the Public Order Act for the pitch invasion. Then there is attempted assault against Sebastian Starke Hedlund. There were also some minor incidents afterward, including threats and violence against officials, which are also included in the charges, the prosecutor told GP.
A trial date has not yet been set.
– I assume the hearing will take place after the summer, says Mats Ihlbom.
