Peter Haber Reveals New 'Beck' Character After Ingvar Hirdwall's Passing

Peter Haber reveals that Martin Beck will have a new comedic friend following the death of Ingvar Hirdwall, who played the neighbor.

In the latest film, 'Beck: Dödläge' from 2023, the neighbor with the distinctive neck brace announces his move.

On the nearby balconies, Ingvar Hirdwall's character Valdemar shares the news with Peter Haber's character Martin Beck. He then delivers his iconic line:

"Would you like a drink?"

In early April 2023, the tragic news came that Ingvar Hirdwall passed away at the age of 88.

Mourning a Close Friend: "Feels Very Empty"

When 'Beck – The Invisible Man' premieres on June 21, it will be the first time without Hirdwall. A significant change, according to Peter Haber, 72, who was a close friend of the actor.

"It feels very empty. I miss him and those scenes a lot," he says and continues.

"Those scenes also had a function. In what is hopefully a very exciting, quite dark case, to have these breaks with the absurd neighbor and Martin Beck sometimes wondering what on earth he is talking about."

Honoring Hirdwall

The 72-year-old shares that Hirdwall, who has been part of the film series since its inception with Haber in the lead role, is honored in the film.

"We mark it with a small toast on the balconies, without him," says the 'Beck' actor.

New Comedic Character

Beck remains in the apartment, but there will be no new neighbor, Haber emphasizes. However, the main character will be joined by another comedic character in the new 'Beck' film.

"He encounters a guest at his regular pub. Who also becomes a bit fun, but I won't reveal more," says Peter Haber.

"He gets another funny companion who is just as exciting, I would say," says Elmira Arikan, who plays Ayda Cedin in 'Beck'.

Peter Haber also reveals that he will appear as a guest actor in another well-known series soon: 'Solsidan'.

"It was very fun. It was a wonderful group to film with," he says.

Soon, there will also be a few weeks of vacation together with his partner Lena T. Hansson.

"We are going abroad for three weeks. It will be very nice," he says.
