Passenger Recounts Dramatic Emergency Landing at Arlanda
Maya, 20, was aboard the plane that was forced to make an emergency landing at Arlanda on Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday morning, a tire burst during takeoff when a Norwegian plane lifted off from Arlanda to Paris. Maya Carenco, who lives in Paris, was one of the 181 passengers.
– When we took off, it shook a lot. It was like driving on the grooved part of the highway, says Maya Carenco.
“Still Vibrating in My Legs”
Once they were airborne, the situation was undramatic, according to Maya, who thought the plane would continue as usual. But after a while, they were informed that they would return to Arlanda and perform a “fly by” close to the ground so that technicians could examine the plane more closely.
They then had to circle to burn off fuel before they could finally land.
– It shook and vibrated a lot. It still vibrates in my legs. In the air, I didn’t really understand what was happening, but now that we’ve landed, I’m a bit shocked, she says.
Maya’s mother and grandmother monitored the flight via online flight radar.
– They kept an eye on me and were apparently very worried. But the pilots and crew on the plane were so calm that I was never worried then, which is comforting now in hindsight, says Maya.
After landing, the plane was surrounded by ambulances and fire trucks.
Now, the passengers will be offered a new flight to Paris.
– Of course, you’re a bit worried, but the risk of it happening again is so incredibly small, so I will get on the plane, says Maya.
Received 180 Kronor Voucher
Oliva Lundberg, 25, lives in Paris and also flew on the plane. She reports that passengers only received a 180 kronor voucher.
She doesn’t think the incident was “very dramatic” but wishes passengers had been offered more compensation.
– I just find it funny. It’s like a sandwich, really. I think they should refund some part of the ticket cost, she says, adding:
– I’m not working today, but others might be and get delayed. I just want to get home.
