Pascal Engman: Unapologetic Storytelling in the World of Crime

In a gang criminal's car sits the successful author Pascal Engman, deeply focused. How does one best hide a weapon? Welcome to a quick course in gang crime on Sommar i P1.

Okay, I'm clickbaiting a bit. So what? Pascal Engman isn't ashamed to do the same. As a true tabloid journalist, trained at Expressen, he knows how to set a scene, draw the best angle from a story, and keep the reader engaged.

Thus, the summer talk is partly about how he meticulously researches his successful crime novels with visits to the underworld, but mostly about a book-loving, ambitious boy with one foot in the suburbs and the other in Östermalm, and with his whole heart with a beloved grandmother who meant everything.

Engman, the grandson of the legendary journalist Gary Engman, host of Kvällsöppet and also editor-in-chief of Aftonbladet, is a rare kind of 'nepobaby', with a father from Chile who worked as a cleaner and a mother from an educated upper-middle class.

It's a classic underdog story, but beautifully told, spiced with love.
