Norway Pursues Russian Submarine

Norway is engaged in a significant operation to track a Russian submarine, reports Norwegian Dagbladet. Since Sunday, a massive pursuit has been underway, according to the newspaper.

The British newspaper The Sun claims that a Russian submarine threatened an American aircraft carrier.

For several days, Norwegian, British, and American surveillance aircraft of the P-8 Poseidon type have been deployed over the sea areas off Lofoten, reports Dagbladet. The world's largest aircraft carrier, the American USS Gerald R. Ford, operates there alongside several other ships.

Since Sunday, 27 missions have reportedly been conducted in the Norwegian Sea. The Norwegian Air Force dispatched three aircraft from Evenes Air Station, writes The Sun.

A senior spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Brynjar Stordal at the Armed Forces' operational headquarters, tells the local newspaper in Narvik, Fremover, that it is natural for the Russians to monitor when aircraft carrier groups operate in the northern areas.

"We know that they routinely use aircraft, surface ships, and submarines to keep watch," says Brynjar Stordal.

Former submarine captain Ryan Ramsay stated: "This is NATO showing that they have control."

The Ministry of Defense has confirmed that it was an operation, not an exercise, but did not provide any details, according to The Sun.

Expressen has sought comments from the Armed Forces' operational headquarters, which declined to comment.
