Expressen and Amelia's compelling video feature about Nina from Örkelljunga, who was attacked in her home, is nominated for the 2024 Magazine Award in the Video of the Year category.

Each year, the prestigious Magazine Award is presented to individuals and journalists who have made a significant impact over the past year. Nominees and winners are selected by jury groups consisting of experienced media professionals.

“In a turbulent world where both democracy and press freedom face numerous challenges, it is a testament to strength to witness all the contributions to the Magazine Award each year,” says Kerstin Neld, CEO of Sveriges Tidskrifter, in a press release.

In the nominated video feature by Expressen and Amelia, viewers meet Nina, 54, who recounts the day her life changed. She describes how the perpetrator entered her home and attacked her, how panic took hold, and how the fear lingers.

“It is rare for material to be so powerful that, as an editor, you feel you almost don't want to touch a frame. And here, there were no other options. Nina's story had to be told exactly as it is,” says Tesso Häger, video editor.

Photographer Jens Christian describes the filming as a meeting where professional roles and human presence intertwined.

“I photographed a woman in the home where she was assaulted—a place charged with strong emotions. By building trust, listening, and being present, I managed to create security in the situation,” he says.

Jens Christian believes that this approach made the story possible.

“I let the camera roll when she started to tell her story—unfiltered and gripping. It was a meeting that showed how crucial sensitivity and human presence are in documentary work.”

The Magazine Award will be presented during the Magazine Gala at Berns in Stockholm on October 22, aiming to reward good role models and innovative journalistic efforts.

“From ambitious investigations to innovative approaches and touching journalism. Our industry is both broad and sharp in a good way,” says Kerstin Neld, CEO of Sveriges Tidskrifter.
