Night staff in home care services filmed care recipients and wrote mocking messages. The videos were then shared via Snapchat.

Last summer, the private care provider received an anonymous tip about misconduct within the home care services in Västerås.

An internal investigation uncovered several offensive videos recorded at the homes of care recipients in the fall of 2024, as stated in a lex Sarah report filed by the company.

In one instance, one of the three employees was supposed to visit a care recipient at night, but all three went. During the visit, the recipient was filmed lying in bed wearing a diaper. According to the report, the video contained "grossly offensive text and emojis" and was shared with unauthorized individuals via Snapchat. Laughter can also be heard in the video.

Two Have Found New Jobs

In another instance, a different care recipient was filmed sitting alone at their dining table eating, and this clip was also shared with offensive text, according to the report.

When the behavior was discovered, the trio was suspended from their jobs. Since then, two have been dismissed, while the third chose to resign, as stated in the lex Sarah report.

However, news agency Siren has obtained documents showing that at least two of the individuals have already secured new positions in home care services in two different municipalities. They are also set to work night shifts, according to the employment contracts.

"No one has called to check references," says the operations manager for the private care company to Siren.
