New Poll: Sweden Democrats Surge to Become Second Largest Party

The Sweden Democrats continue to grow and are now the second largest party in the country, according to SVT Verian's latest opinion poll. For the fourth consecutive month, support for the party has increased, according to the survey.

The party receives 20.8 percent—higher than the 2022 election result—and now has more support than the Moderates in 15 out of 21 counties.

The Moderates are losing voters, landing at 18.1 percent.

The Liberals reach only 2.4 percent in the poll, despite the leadership change to Simona Mohamsson just under three months ago, and risk being ousted from parliament.

The Center Party receives 5.2 percent, a continued decline since last month, but the change since August is not significant.

Opposition Holds Clear Advantage

The opposition has a clear advantage with 52.5 percent compared to the ruling coalition's 45.4 percent, writes SVT.

"Compared to the same time before the 2022 election, the gap is significantly larger; it was almost even between the blocs then. Perhaps we will see more movement among voters as the political autumn gets underway," says Per Söderpalm, head of opinion at Verian, to the channel.

The survey is based on over 3,000 interviews conducted with individuals in the Sifo panel—a panel recruited through random national representative samples—between August 25 and September 7.
