New Health Minister Elisabet Lann Faints at Press Conference, Jokes About Incident

Elisabet Lann, 48, made a dramatic entrance into Swedish national politics when she collapsed during a press conference with the Prime Minister. She now comments on the incident, assuring everyone that she is well.

"I have been contacted by many people from around the world showing incredible care and concern," she says.

Christian Democrat Elisabet Lann takes over from Acko Ankarberg Johansson as the new Health Minister. This was announced on Tuesday when Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson delivered his government declaration.

Shortly after, he held a press conference to outline the changes in the government.

It was during this event that the drama unfolded. The new minister, Lann, collapsed and received immediate assistance on site, including from her party leader, Ebba Busch.

A day later, Elisabet Lann explains what happened, stating she fainted after an intense day with too little food and sleep, a fact first reported by SVT.

"I understand it looked dramatic, but I have experienced this before on occasion, so I wasn't particularly worried. I recovered quickly afterward," she says.

A Global News Sensation

Images of the fainting minister have caused a significant stir in Sweden and abroad. Lann has noticed this through the numerous messages she has received from people worldwide.

"People show incredible care and concern. I received very, very kind care immediately on site from people in the room and later in the evening. I was back and completed the day," she adds.

The party has launched a video on social media joking about Elisabet Lann's fall while introducing her as the new minister.

"It feels okay to do so. I am fine," Lann says with a laugh.

Now, Elisabet Lann hopes to put the drama behind her and start working on healthcare issues. Healthcare is one of the Christian Democrats' main profile issues.

"What I will focus on is increasing accessibility. We must eliminate queues and offer equal healthcare in Sweden. Your chances of survival or receiving the right care should not depend on where you live in Sweden."
