Mora Nightclub Bans Slippers, Sparking Guest Outrage
Fights at the door, angry guests, and threats against staff.
Fights at the door, angry guests, and threats against staff at the nightclub Lilla helvetet in Mora.
The reason: A ban on slippers and sandals.
Something that guests have not taken lightly this summer.
– It's been completely crazy, says nightclub owner Nicklas Björklund.
However, the ban is nothing new. No, it has been in place for a long time – for safety reasons.
– I don't want guests to get hurt, step on glass, slip, trip, or kick a table. We've had incidents, and that's why we've taken these measures, says Nicklas Björklund.
A notice has also been put up referring to guest safety:
“We love style. We love attitude. But you know what we love even more? That you have a great night – without accidents with us!” the notice states.
“That's why we have a slipper ban. Yes, even those stylish ones with or without fur. It's not just about fashion – it's about safety. Slippers (and similar) are real party spoilers when it comes to slipping risks and sprained ankles, as well as if you step on broken glass.”
Despite this, several guests have become furious when stopped at the door and denied entry.
– They can't take it. There have been outright threats, with people even coming back later in the evening to argue with the bouncers about slippers.
“Should she have to be terrified at work?”
The nightclub Lilla helvetet is the only place in Mora that closes at 3 AM, so many guests have already been drinking during the evening – perhaps at a place that allows slippers – and then many feel that Nicklas Björklund and his staff are “ruining the party night.”
Has it become violent?
– Yes, last weekend we even had a group. They gathered against the bouncer, went around the house, and banged on windows, behaving like...
– The bouncer this weekend, she's 18 years old and has her first job, should she have to be terrified at work because people can't accept our decision about slippers?
Despite the reactions, he stands firm:
Sandals and slippers stay home – otherwise, you stay outside.
– I've always had the guests in focus. Or well, now I'm losing them anyway. But we care about the guest being able to come next weekend too without having to have their foot in a bandage, says Nicklas Björklund, questioning while wars rage around the world:
– There should be other things to think about than… slippers?
