Minister Peter Kullgren Celebrates New Baby and Plans Parental Leave
Peter Kullgren (Christian Democrats) made headlines earlier this year as the first Swedish minister to take paternity leave. Now, he has welcomed another child and shared his joy on Instagram.
"I will be on parental leave again," the Minister for Rural Affairs told NWT.
Peter Kullgren and his wife have become parents once more.
"Yesterday, our long-awaited son, Waldemar and Edith's little brother, came into the world," he wrote in his Instagram post.
Earlier this year, Kullgren became the first male minister to take leave for his child, spending five weeks at home with his daughter Edith. He emphasized that this decision was not meant as a symbolic gesture for gender equality.
"Some might think I'm trying to make a point. For me, it's completely irrelevant. This is something I consider important in my relationship with my child," he told Expressen earlier this year.
"Unsure of My Plans for Next Year"
Kullgren seems to have developed a taste for paternity leave and confirmed to NWT that he plans to be home with his child again. However, the timing is uncertain, and the outcome of next year's election could influence his plans.
"I don't know what I'll be doing in a year; we'll see. It's very possible it will happen again," he told the newspaper.
He currently views his role as a father as more important than his government duties.
"When you become a parent, not much else matters in the world. Whether you're a minister, president, or entrepreneur, family is the focus in the early days," Kullgren told NWT.
