Minister Criticizes SJ Chairman's Age-Related Dismissal Remark

Sweden's Minister for Elderly and Social Insurance, Anna Tenje (M), has criticized the chairman of SJ for citing age as a reason for the dismissal of the train company's CEO last Sunday.

"I don't review individuals, but I can state that it highlights the age discrimination present in our country, which I believe we need to address," she said.

When SJ's CEO Monica Lingegård was dismissed on Sunday, the decision was partly justified by Chairman Kenneth Bengtsson with her age. Lingegård, who turns 63 this year, was deemed too old to lead the state-owned company forward.

At a press conference with the parliamentary pension group, Minister Anna Tenje (M) described the statement as "quite strange."

Kenneth Bengtsson later retracted his statement, calling it "unusually stupid."
