Midsummer Health Alert at Leksand: Stomach Bug Concerns

As the Midsummer weekend approaches, ten employees at Leksand Sommarland are home from work after being struck by a stomach bug. In an internal email, management warns of potential spread and urges employees to exercise caution to reduce transmission.

"I'm not worried about the weekend and don't see any risk of a major stomach bug chaos," says Martin Erkenborn, CEO of Leksand Sommarland.

The Midsummer celebration at Leksand Sommarland in Dalarna annually attracts thousands of people. However, this year's festivities might take on a different tone.

During the National Day weekend, several staff members fell ill with a stomach bug, which has continued to spread since. The source of the illness has yet to be identified.

Aftonbladet has obtained internal emails from Leksand Sommarland warning about the spread.

"We have been informed that several colleagues at several of our facilities have fallen ill with a stomach bug. Due to this, we urge everyone to maintain the highest focus on hygiene, as always."

An employee at Leksand Sommarland criticizes the management.

"There are so many people coming here, and we don't know where the infection is coming from. I think it's strange that we aren't told where it's coming from. They should be more open about it," says the person.

"My worst-case scenario is that it's something in the food, leading to a stomach bug chaos."

"I'm Not Worried"

Martin Erkenborn is the CEO of Leksand Resort, which owns Leksand Sommarland.

"It's an important and big weekend for us in Leksand, so we've taken this very seriously and implemented several preventive measures. We have 450 employees, and right now it's just over ten employees affected," he says.

The park will remain open as usual during the Midsummer weekend.

"We have no indication that it's related to food or anything like that. The employees have been in different places and in different parts of the operation," says Erkenborn.

He also claims that no information has been withheld from the employees.

On Thursday, Leksand Municipality conducted several tests at Leksand Sommarland and found nothing "abnormal" or "alarming," according to Erkenborn.

"I'm not worried about the weekend and don't see any risk of a major stomach bug chaos in Leksand in the coming days," he says.
