The elderly man called the police to report he was lost, but the call was cut off. Since then, he has been missing. A large search operation is currently underway in Blekinge.
– He has had the worst luck, says Leif Fransson from the southern police department.
The man, in his 80s and residing in Tingsryd municipality, was dropped off at Kallinge airport by a relative on Tuesday. He then disappeared.
On Tuesday, the man contacted the police himself, stating he had gotten lost and was stuck in some kind of ditch. However, his phone stopped working mid-call, and he couldn't provide more information.
According to the police, the situation would have been entirely different if the phone hadn't failed.
– We would have found him fairly quickly. He has had the worst luck, says Leif Fransson, spokesperson for the southern police department.
Extensive Search Efforts
Large search efforts have been ongoing since yesterday and throughout the night. The police are now continuing the search and allocating more resources.
However, the search area is vast, and the terrain is dense. The man's phone couldn't be precisely located due to the few cell towers in the area. However, the search area has been narrowed down to about 40 kilometers.
– He has wandered onto smaller roads, and there are many small roads to search. We are searching intensively and checking all possible and impossible places where he might be, says Leif Fransson.
The missing man was traveling in a blue Dacia Logan and was last seen wearing black pants, a black jacket, a gray sweater, a white t-shirt, and glasses. He is 185 cm tall, weighs about 80 kg, and reportedly has difficulty moving.
