Man Receives Compensation After Hour-Long Phone Queue 'Torture'

Markus Jonasson endured an hour-long phone queue and felt poorly treated when he finally got through. In protest, he decided to invoice the company for the 'torture' and received payment.

Markus Jonasson, 48, from Simrishamn, was stuck in a phone queue for an hour to contest a reminder fee on an invoice he never received.

The reminder fee was 450 kronor, and during the entire wait, he was forced to listen to music he described as 'torture.'

"I've been in such queues many times, often because I want something, but this time it was because they made a mistake. When they weren't particularly nice either, I wanted to send an invoice in pure protest," says Markus Jonasson.

Sent Invoice for One Hour of Work

When he got through, he asked to terminate his customer relationship with the company. They asked him to pay the reminder fee and sent him a credit invoice for 1,000 kronor.

Markus Jonasson then sent an invoice to the company for one hour of work, 795 kronor plus VAT.

When he saw a deposit in his account, he realized the company had paid him for the inconvenience, as first reported by Ystads Allehanda.

"I was a bit surprised. Maybe they have it as a policy to avoid more hassle. Or it just slipped through."

A Statement: 'Many Have Thought the Same Thing'

The 48-year-old clothing retailer says he sent the invoice as a statement to show that the company's treatment was not okay.

"I really thought they would just tear it up and throw it away, but obviously, they didn't."

He then made a humorous post on Facebook about his experience.

"I was probably onto something because I've received a lot of positive feedback. Many have probably thought the same thing but haven't done it," says Markus Jonasson.
