Man Accused of Scamming Stockholm's Luxury Restaurants with Fake Swish Payments

A man attempted to pay bills at Stockholm's upscale restaurants using Swish. He is now suspected of defrauding these establishments of nearly 90,000 SEK.

"These are fashionable establishments that have been affected," says prosecutor Conrad Karlsson Palmcrantz to Mitt i.

During the spring and summer of 2025, the man visited restaurants and nightclubs around Stureplan and other popular spots in central Stockholm.

He wanted to pay with Swish and then showed a confirmation in the app that appeared genuine, writes Mitt i.

However, no money was received. According to the prosecutor, this is a systematic fraud affecting a large number of restaurants, including Grand Hôtel.

Nearly 90,000 SEK

The total bill? 87,851 SEK, writes DN.

"I suspect this person has eaten and drunk at various restaurants and, when the bill was to be paid, showed a fake Swish confirmation," says prosecutor Conrad Karlsson Palmcrantz to DN.

Staff at the restaurants reported in interviews that the man was rude and threatening, wasted wine, and claimed the food was "disgusting," the newspaper writes.

The man denies the crime and refuses to answer police questions.

"Do not want to participate," the man responds in the interview.
