Malmö School Staff Caught Drinking Alcohol During School Hours

Staff at a school in Malmö have repeatedly organized after-work gatherings where alcohol was consumed, even while students were still on the premises.

Alcohol at the workplace? Most would say no.

But not the staff at an elementary school in Malmö.

Sydsvenskan has accessed internal documents showing that the school administration has, on several occasions, organized after-work events with alcohol inside the school. Drinking occurred in the staff room, and according to a source, also in the auditorium and home economics room.

Drinking began as early as 4 PM while students were still at school. Teachers and other staff were reportedly under the influence in front of the children, according to the documents.

Principal Warned

In Malmö city, it is prohibited for employees to consume alcohol in municipal facilities, regardless of whether it is during work hours or not, writes Sydsvenskan. The municipality is taking the partying very seriously and has issued a written warning to the school's principal.

If the staff continues to drink at the school, the principal risks being fired, according to the warning notice.

The principal declined to comment on the incident when contacted by Sydsvenskan.

– I must refer to the elementary school administration. The investigation outlines what happened, and I have received a labor-related consequence.
