Major Power Outage Hits Gotland Again

Gotland has been hit by a major power outage once more.

"The connection between the mainland and Gotland has been disconnected," writes the energy company Geab in its customer dispatch.

Just before midnight, Visby and other parts of Gotland experienced a significant power outage, reports Hela Gotland. Initially, 42,960 customers were without electricity. As recently as August 23, the entire island was without power for several hours.

"We are troubleshooting and working on identifying the cause," says Johanna Lind at Geab to the newspaper.

According to an SMS dispatch from Geab to customers, "the connection between Gotland and the mainland has been disconnected," writes Hela Gotland. However, the newspaper later reports that a lightning strike is believed to be behind the outage.

There was heavy rain and thunderstorms on the island during the late evening.

By 1:30 AM, power had been restored to all customers, according to Geab.
