Major Investment in Security at Haga Palace

The costs for Haga Palace have surged in recent years. It is now clear that a significant security project, including vehicle-stopping bollards, is behind the million-kronor expenditure.

Since 2021, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel's residence at Haga Palace has undergone renovations costing 21.3 million SEK.

A large portion of the funds has been allocated to traditional maintenance, according to Svensk Dam, which accessed information from the National Property Board of Sweden, the agency managing the royal palaces.

Expenses include gutter replacements, plaster repairs, and renovations to improve the working environment in the guard room.

However, some projects stand out and have significantly increased costs.

'Gjörwellsprojektet'

The primary project, known as 'Gjörwellsprojektet,' has been a major factor, according to Svensk Dam.

The National Property Board of Sweden has been secretive about the project, which has cost taxpayers over nine million SEK since 2023.

Security Measures

According to the National Property Board's figures, the project cost 4.8 million SEK in 2023, an additional 4.2 million SEK in 2024, and 172,000 SEK so far this year. In total, it amounts to 9.2 million SEK in just over two years.

'Gjörwellsprojektet' involves extensive security measures around Haga Palace, the home of the Crown Princess couple, as reported by Svensk Dam.

The project has been funded by a special government grant to enhance security at the royal palaces.

– This type of security measure requires extensive planning and customized solutions, which can lead to high costs, says Marcus Årskog, spokesperson for the National Property Board of Sweden.

Bollards to Stop Vehicles

New so-called bollard lines have been installed around Haga Palace. A bollard line consists of sturdy posts, either fixed or retractable, placed to prevent unauthorized vehicle entry and thereby increase the building's security.

The agency has not disclosed further measures due to security reasons. However, it is clear that the investment in Haga Palace has become a costly affair for the state, and additional expenses cannot be ruled out in the future.
