Lost Camera Found After 15 Years: A Journey Back in Time
A camera that had been lying on the ocean floor for 15 years was found, and the people in the photos were successfully identified.
Beneath the surface, many secrets can be hidden—something Stefan Runersten, 42, and his son Lukas, 10, from Kvidinge know very well.
For several months, they have been engaged in magnet fishing, using a strong magnet attached to a long line lowered into the water. And what can you find? Quite a lot.
"We've pulled up four pistols, a rifle, and a ton of ammunition," Stefan shares.
The Shock: The Photos Were Still There
During a magnet fishing trip last Friday, Stefan and his son found two bags of jewelry and old watches. But there was also an old camera, as first reported by Helsingborgs Dagblad.
"At the time, we didn't think much about finding a camera, but we got a bit curious," says Stefan.
Stefan bought a memory card reader to test the memory cards, which turned out to work. The photos were dated from 2010 and included pictures of a group of young girls.
"I thought: 'Can I post on Facebook and try to find the owner?' It only took an hour, and then I was in contact with three girls who were in the photos," says Stefan.
"I Was Completely Overjoyed!"
The photos turned out to be from an old confirmation camp outside Varberg, and the camera had been missing without a trace until now. Petronella Nordén, 30, learned about the photos' existence after a friend who found Stefan's Facebook post contacted her.
"I was completely overjoyed! It brought back a lot of memories," says Petronella, one of the girls in the photos.
But she has no idea how it ended up in Örkelljunga, as the places are about 140 kilometers apart.
"I can't answer that, but it's very funny that it was found there."
Natasha Isaksson Gordon, 30, who is also one of the people in the photos, initially thought someone was joking with her when she received a message about appearing in an old picture.
She remembers very well when the photos were taken.
"These are incredibly wonderful memories; we were at camp for 10 days and had an insanely fun time together," Natasha writes in a message to Expressen.
Elin Fritz, 30, was also very surprised when she heard about the photos, which then brought back many memories from that time.
"Natasha, who was my best friend then, contacted me, and we both laughed at the whole incident," Elin writes to Expressen.
Other old friends have also reached out after the post.
"It's been very fun to get in touch with many people you no longer have close in your life!" Elin writes.
Petronella contacted Natasha the other day after the photos had surfaced. The old camera had belonged to Natasha, and Petronella clearly remembers how upset her mother was when the camera disappeared.
"I said Natasha can tell her mom that the camera is now back," says Petronella.
