Lisa Nilsson Reflects on Her Nerve-Wracking First Encounter with the Royal Family
Lisa Nilsson is one of the royal family's favorite artists. However, her first meeting with them was particularly nerve-wracking due to a pair of transparent lace pants.
"I was stressed about the impression we would make," says Lisa Nilsson, laughing.
When the royal family celebrates significant occasions, Lisa Nilsson is often the one performing on stage. She has performed at King Carl Gustaf's 60th birthday, his 40th anniversary on the throne, and at Crown Princess Victoria's wedding to Prince Daniel.
This year, she once again sang for the Crown Princess and the entire royal family at the Victoria Concert.
"There has always been a friendly—and affectionate—relationship between us. I feel appreciated by them and relaxed when they are in the audience," says Lisa Nilsson, adding:
"I usually allow myself to joke a little gently."
Lisa Nilsson on Her First Meeting
Before her first meeting with the royal family, Lisa Nilsson was not as calm.
This also took place on Öland and in the ruins of Borgholm Castle during the Badrock tour in 1989.
"It was a bit extra nerve-wracking the first time," Lisa Nilsson recalls.
"But it was also a slightly rockier show, and Sanne Salomonsen was there—dressed in transparent black lace pants and a thong."
"Stressed About the Impression on the Children"
The entire royal family was present, including a 12-year-old Crown Princess, Prince Carl Philip, then ten, and Princess Madeleine, then seven.
"I remember that it took up quite a bit of my energy—that I was stressed about her wearing those clothes, and what impression we would make on these sweet children who came in with bows in their hair like little real princes and princesses," she says, finding the memory quite amusing.
"I usually laugh at how worried I was about that—because it's fun to look back on it now."
