Leif GW Persson Criticizes Light Sentence for Bianca Ingrosso's Stalker
The man who stalked Bianca Ingrosso was sentenced this week to five months in prison. Criminology professor Leif GW Persson finds this "terribly little."
"This is not a crime to be treated with leniency or ease," he said on TV4's "Nyhetsmorgon."
This week, the verdict was delivered against the 38-year-old man charged with stalking Bianca Ingrosso.
He received five months in prison for unlawful persecution.
On TV4's "Nyhetsmorgon," Leif GW Persson commented on the verdict.
"The court wanted to make a point and gave him an extra month. It's terribly little; this is a serious crime," he said.
He argues that the risk of recidivism in this type of crime is high. In other cases, restraining orders have proven ineffective, with perpetrators instead escalating to physical attacks on the victim, GW noted.
"In hindsight, it has been found that the perpetrator did not care about it."
Ingrosso: The Nightmare is Over
Bianca Ingrosso testified in court about how her life was affected by the man's stalking.
"I absolutely had to change my entire daily routine," she said, among other things.
After the verdict, she was relieved.
"It's so damn nice that this nightmare is over, and that he won't be able to harass me or any other girl for a good while now. I'm proud that I finally dared to report it and that he didn't get away," she wrote in a comment.
