Lego's New Death Star Model Criticized for High Price and Design

Record-Breaking Lego Death Star Criticized: "A Cheese Wheel"

Lego is soon releasing its fourth model of the Death Star at a record-high price. However, the eagerly awaited model is already facing criticism.

"I expected much more," says German Lego expert Benedikt Ruhe.

Lego's upcoming Death Star model, inspired by the Star Wars series, is a substantial piece with 9,023 pieces and 38 small figures, including fan favorites like Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and (spoiler alert) the Skywalker twins.

The Death Star is one of the largest constructions Lego has produced in terms of piece count, only slightly surpassed by the Eiffel Tower, Titanic, and Colosseum.

The price reflects this. The new Death Star, Lego's fourth buildable version of the space station, is priced at a record $999.99, or nearly 10,000 Swedish kronor. It will hit stores in early October.

"Ready to Spend a Million Kronor"

But experts and fans are already critical of the new model. Lego expert Benedikt Ruhe shares his verdict with his more than 300,000 followers in a YouTube clip.

"I expected much more. But this looks like a dollhouse," he says, according to German Bild, also criticizing the accompanying minifigures.

"They are simple. The better versions, such as those used on keychains, were unfortunately omitted from this set," he explains.

Even on Reddit's large Lego Star Wars forum, the tone is negative.

"I was 100 percent ready to spend a million kronor on this. But I really can't see myself doing it now that I've seen how it – unfortunately – looks," writes a user according to Danish TV Syd.
