Kjell Bergqvist and Tommy Körberg Break Midsummer Tradition

This Midsummer marks a break in a long-standing tradition for Tommy Körberg and Kjell Bergqvist. The friends, who have celebrated the day together for over 20 years, will not be doing so this summer.

Friends Tommy Körberg, 76, and Kjell Bergqvist, 72, have spent Midsummer together for over 20 years at Körberg's country home in the Trosa archipelago, with only a few exceptions.

Expressen previously reported that the Midsummer celebration on the meadow near Körberg's summer house has become a popular event. Benny Andersson, who also lives nearby, usually plays the accordion while Körberg plays the guitar during the traditional dance around the maypole.

Breaking the Tradition

A few years ago, around 300 people attended the Midsummer celebration.

This year, however, Körberg and Bergqvist will celebrate Midsummer separately. Bergqvist will be attending a wedding.

Körberg, however, does not feel sad about not celebrating with his friend.

– It will be calm and pleasant, he says, adding:

– We will celebrate quietly and peacefully at home with the family.

This Year's Midsummer Celebration

Initially, there was talk of Lasse Kronér or Claes Malmberg joining the celebration at the "Stad i ljus" singer's home instead of Bergqvist, but they were also unavailable, Körberg explains.

However, the annual Midsummer celebration on the meadow with Benny Andersson will still take place, Körberg assures.

– Yes, people will come to the Midsummer meadow. There will be a maypole, children, sack races, and tug-of-war.
