Kim Nilsson Joins Vetlanda: A Game-Changing Move in Swedish Floorball
At the end of May, Ölandsbladet revealed a major scoop.
Kim Nilsson – one of the greatest floorball players of all time – was considering a move from Kalmarsund in the SSL to the newly promoted Allsvenskan team Vetlanda.
Expressen later reported that Kim Nilsson had already decided to move to Vetlanda – along with his younger brother Adam.
The main figure himself had said nothing was finalized.
But on Thursday morning, he confirmed his departure from his home club.
"I could write endlessly about all the wonderful memories, but I share them with you in our memory bank. A big thank you to everyone involved! FBC Kalmarsund has provided me with the conditions to succeed but, above all, to feel good. 'Sundet' is not just a team but a club and association to be proud of. Even if we haven't always reached where we wanted, we've done it together, and that's what counts!" the 37-year-old writes on Instagram.
"Aiming to Put Vetlanda on the Floorball Map"
Now he makes one of the biggest surprise transfers in Swedish floorball history.
Which he also confirms on Instagram.
"Next season, I will play for Vetlanda Innebandy! I'm following my instincts again and am ready for new challenges!" he writes.
Vetlanda is making a big push as a newcomer.
They have strong public support and excellent local backing.
– We have long wanted to put Vetlanda on the floorball map. We had a long-term plan to play in the Allsvenskan within three years. Many laughed at that when we played in division two. Now we aim to establish ourselves firmly in the Allsvenskan and eventually aim for higher-level play, said sports director Henrik Åhlund recently.
Kim Nilsson Becomes the Biggest Star in Allsvenskan
Kim Nilsson is by far Kalmarsund's greatest player of all time.
In 2016, he returned to the club after an adventure with AIK and in Switzerland – and was bought out for a world record sum of 1.4 million kronor.
He has also been a prominent figure in Swedish floorball for nearly two decades.
Named the world's best player on two occasions, with several World Championship and Swedish Championship golds to his name, and the top scorer ever in the Swedish team.
Now Kim Nilsson becomes the Allsvenskan's biggest star by far.
Last season, the forward scored 29 points in as many matches.
