Johan Forssell Addresses Controversy: 'Wrong Circles'

Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M) appeared on TV4's 'Nyhetsmorgon'.

This marks his first public appearance since Expo revealed that Forssell has a close relative linked to violent right-wing extremism.

The Swedish Security Service, Säpo, contacted him weeks ago, stating that the son was 'not suspected of any crime and that the activity was some time ago.'

– I abhor right-wing extremism, and all other forms of extremism for that matter, Forssell stated on TV4's 'Nyhetsmorgon'.

– Naturally, I was shocked and horrified.

Forssell shared that he has had 'long and difficult' conversations with his son.

– Even though the activity has ended, the conversations will continue.

Wants to Stay in Position

He mentioned having discussions with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) but did not disclose details.

– It's not a pleasant situation. We will need to continue dedicating a lot of time to this, and I will take that responsibility, Forssell said.

He explained why he chose to reveal that this involves his son.

– One must try to be as transparent as possible, he said, adding:

– For me, this is primarily a task for me as a father.

When asked if he plans to remain as minister, the answer was yes.

– I am fully focused on implementing the policies we have received support from the Swedish people for.

'Always a Responsibility as a Parent'

Regarding the security risk posed by his son's connections, Forssell stated he had not received any information indicating a security threat.

As a minister, Forssell has often spoken about the importance of parental responsibility. When TV4 asked about this, Forssell replied:

– One always has a responsibility, both as a parent and a person. Parental responsibility does not always mean success, but one must always strive to succeed. I try to take my parental responsibility.

To Be Summoned to Committee

Following the interview, Forssell posted on Facebook and Instagram about the situation, expressing hope that 'this can be an eye-opener for more parents.'

On Wednesday, Expressen reported that the Left Party's Tony Haddou wants to summon Johan Forssell to the social insurance committee to answer questions about the relative's ties to right-wing extremism.

The Social Democrats and the Green Party support the Left Party's demand.

– He cannot hide, he must lay his cards on the table, said Tony Haddou.

Forssell had previously only commented on the relative anonymously to TT.

Expressen has sought Johan Forssell, who referred to the TV4 interview and his social media post.
