Israeli Ambassador in Sweden Denies Genocide Allegations Amidst Gaza Crisis
Israeli Ambassador in Stockholm, Ziv Nevo Kulman, asserts that Israel is doing everything possible to fight for its survival. He claims that accusations of genocide are completely unfounded.
The situation in Gaza is dire. Over 57,000 people have died, according to Palestinian health authorities controlled by Hamas. A study suggests the number could be more than 80,000.
The UN has repeatedly warned of widespread famine, with a large portion of the population at risk of starvation.
Meanwhile, Israel dismisses all allegations of excessive warfare since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel.
"We protect our civilians, while Hamas hides behind theirs. It's not a simple situation," says Israeli Ambassador to Sweden, Ziv Nevo Kulman, on P1 Morning.
Ambassador: Working Hard for Humanitarian Aid
In early May, Israel, together with the USA, launched the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, GHF, to manage the distribution of aid.
The organization has faced significant criticism, and its head, Jake Wood, resigned just weeks after its launch, stating it did not align with humanitarian principles.
IDF soldiers have reported being ordered to shoot at hungry civilians at distribution centers, according to Haaretz. Ziv Nevo Kulman denies this, claiming the Haaretz report is a complete lie.
"It is absolutely false. Soldiers are ordered to avoid all types of killing, and they follow this," he says on P1 Morning.
Accusing the Other Side of Genocide
According to a report by a special committee for the UN, Israel's warfare aligns with what characterizes genocide. Amnesty has also concluded that Israel is committing genocide.
According to Ziv Nevo Kulman, the reverse is true. He argues that the other side, both the Iranian regime and Hamas, should be blamed for genocide. He refers to a report by the Israeli organization The Dinah Project, which claims Hamas has used sexual violence as a strategy for genocide.
"If you are looking for genocide, I think you need to look at what the other side is doing."
