Iran Allegedly Plans Drone Attacks on Jewish Interests in Sweden
Reports indicate that Iran is planning aerial drone attacks on Jewish interests in Sweden, according to Expressen.
The threat level against the Israeli embassy and Jewish interests in Sweden has significantly increased in recent days, as reported by sources to Expressen and Aftonbladet.
Police have intensified security around the Israeli embassy and locations associated with Jewish interests. This includes an increased presence of armed police officers around the Israeli embassy.
The background to this is that the police intelligence department has reportedly intercepted information suggesting that actors in Iran are currently attempting to recruit criminal networks in Sweden to carry out a new form of attack.
The motive is said to be retaliation for Israel's offensive in Gaza and attacks on Iran.
The plan is to launch drone attacks from the air, according to Expressen.
Aron Verständig, chairman of the Jewish Central Council, is aware of the reports:
– I have heard about these reports, but I do not know more than that. Generally, we work broadly in our security efforts, and nowadays we also have to consider drones.
– The threat landscape is constantly changing and becoming more complex. And of course, the reports about drones are something we need to take seriously, continues Aron Verständig.
Säpo Warned
Säpo has long warned that the Iranian regime uses criminal networks in Sweden to carry out acts of violence against other states perceived as regime enemies, including Israel and Jewish interests.
However, Säpo does not wish to comment on Expressen's current reports about planned new attacks in Sweden.
– We cannot comment on individual reports and events. From the Security Police's side, we are, of course, closely monitoring developments and events and making ongoing assessments to take necessary measures. But we cannot go into detail about what measures we take, says Johan Wikström, spokesperson for Säpo.
