International Manhunt for Convicted Murderer Abdifatah Yahye Omar

Abdifatah Yahye Omar, 24, opened fire with an automatic rifle into a group of people. A 23-year-old was hit in the head and died. The shooter was sentenced to life imprisonment this summer, but he has now disappeared without a trace.

In September 2023, several men were barbecuing in a courtyard in Jordbro, south of Stockholm.

Late in the evening, a white Dodge Ram drove up to the men. The 24-year-old Abdifatah Yahye Omar jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire with an automatic rifle.

A 23-year-old was hit in the head and died. Another was hit in the hand.

The day before, a man in his 60s was shot in the chest when he opened the door to his house in Åkersberga, northeast of Stockholm. The man was seriously injured but survived.

None of the men had any connection to gang crime, and the police believe the attacks were targeted against Ismail Abdo's side in the Foxtrot conflict.

Internationally Wanted

Four people – Billy Linder, 24, Embla Linder, 22, Josip Dumencic, 23, and Besim Alijaj, 20, were sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the murder and attempted murders.

However, the district court did not find the evidence against the alleged shooter sufficient, and he was only convicted of serious weapons offenses.

The verdict was appealed to the Court of Appeal, which this summer made a completely different assessment and confirmed that Omar was behind the shootings.

He was also sentenced to life imprisonment.

During the Court of Appeal proceedings, the 24-year-old was released on bail – and now he is missing.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has been unable to contact Omar to inform him that he must report to Kumla Prison. For several days now, he has been internationally wanted, the authority announced.

In its decision, which the news agency Siren has reviewed, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service writes that there is a probable risk that Omar is trying to evade punishment by staying hidden.
