Heated Exchange: Andersson and Kristersson Clash Over Gang Crime Allegations
Ulf Kristersson and Magdalena Andersson clashed in 'P1 Morgon'. The debate continued afterward.
"Here you see how Magdalena Andersson scolds the Prime Minister," writes Kristersson's aide Susanna Silfverskiöld on X.
"Sadly low level," responds the Social Democrats, claiming it was a "question in good tone."
With a year until the election, prime ministerial candidates Ulf Kristersson and Magdalena Andersson faced off in a debate on Monday's 'P1 Morgon' on Sveriges Radio. The discussion heated up when they touched on gang crime.
Kristersson raised accusations that the Social Democrats in Botkyrka had been infiltrated by gang criminals:
-
"The Social Democrats in Botkyrka. Deep within established structures, we now have serious crime that must be rooted out."
-
"Come on now. Jimmie Åkesson had a gang criminal at his wedding," Andersson replied, receiving a retort:
-
"Then the Sweden Democrats and the Social Democrats can discuss how best to cultivate their gang criminal contacts."
"Scolded"
After the microphones were turned off, the discussion continued.
Susanna Silfverskiöld, a political advisor to the Prime Minister, told Expressen that Magdalena Andersson scolded the Prime Minister and that the S leader was "irritated" after the broadcast.
"In the 2022 election campaign, Magdalena Andersson scolded Ebba Busch in the ladies' room before a debate. Here you see how Magdalena Andersson scolds the Prime Minister after the debate on P1 this morning – because he pointed out the Social Democrats' problems with gang criminals in Botkyrka. Total desperation," Silfverskiöld writes on X.
S: Sadly Low Level
The Social Democrats deny that it was a scolding.
"Magdalena Andersson calmly asked Ulf Kristersson if he had any information he could share regarding his claims," the press service writes in a statement.
According to the Social Democrats, it was a "question in good tone":
"But Kristersson was clearly stressed by not being able to account for what he was basing his claims on. So it was not a scolding. That description is rather an expression of the Prime Minister's Office's sadly low level on social media."
The Social Democrats also refer to their own investigation, which found no evidence that the Social Democrats in Botkyrka had been infiltrated by gang criminals. However, one person was excluded after failing to cooperate in the party's security investigation.
