Haribo Sues Swedish Candy People Over Sour Gummies Dispute

A legal battle has erupted in the candy world concerning a Swedish favorite – sour gummies. German candy giant Haribo believes that Malmö-based Candy People's gummies are too similar to the original.

Sour cola gummies are a favorite among Swedes, and now there are many different flavors: bubblegum, sour melon, sour cherry, to name a few.

However, consumers might not realize that several companies are behind these sour treats: Haribo and the newcomer Candy People.

Haribo claims that the sour gummies produced by Candy People are too similar to Haribo's own.

Haribo considers this a case of trademark infringement and has therefore sued Candy People for a substantial fine.

Haribo became aware of the similarity between the gummies in the spring of 2025 and has since engaged in fruitless correspondence with the opposing party regarding the design of the gummies, according to the German company's involved lawyers.

The documents reveal that Candy People opposes the lawsuit and has made it clear to Haribo that they have no intention of stopping the production and sale of their gummies.
