Hamas Agrees to Ceasefire Proposal in Gaza

Sources within Hamas have informed several news agencies that the group, labeled as a terrorist organization, has agreed to the terms of a new ceasefire proposal in Gaza.

This agreement comes "without any additional demands," according to AFP's source.

A Palestinian source earlier on Monday stated that mediators have proposed an initial 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of hostages in two phases.

"It is a framework to initiate negotiations for a permanent ceasefire," the source said.

Israel has not responded to the proposal. There are significant questions about whether Israel would consider such a plan. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently indicated that he demands the release of all hostages at once.

Of the Israelis taken hostage when Hamas started the war in 2023, approximately 20 people are believed to still be alive in the Gaza Strip.

Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz, according to The Times of Israel, stated that Hamas's "willingness to discuss a deal to release hostages only comes because they are afraid that we seriously intend to take the city of Gaza."

Talks about a ceasefire have been held in both Cairo and Qatar over the past week.
