Gustaf Skarsgård Backs Greta Thunberg's New Sailing Mission to Gaza
Climate activist Greta Thunberg is once again setting sail to attempt to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver aid. In an Instagram video, actor Gustaf Skarsgård shows his support, calling the initiative a "collective effort."
In June, Greta Thunberg and the Freedom Flotilla sailed towards Gaza but were stopped by Israeli forces before reaching their destination. The crew was taken to Israel before being deported.
Now, the climate activist is making a new attempt on a larger scale.
– On August 31, we will launch the largest attempt ever to break the illegal siege of Gaza with dozens of boats departing from Spain. We will join with dozens more on September 4 departing from Tunisia, Thunberg writes on Instagram.
Actor's Support on Instagram
The initiative is led by Global Sumud Flotilla, an organization described as independent and international, with no ties to governments or political parties, according to TT. Delegations from 44 countries are expected to participate.
On Sunday, the organization posted a video on its Instagram account where Thunberg, along with several activists and well-known figures, describes the initiative. Among them is Swedish actor Gustaf Skarsgård, who calls it a "collective effort."
– From coalitions, organizations, and ordinary people from around the world who have shown unwavering solidarity for the Palestinians, he says in the clip.
Skarsgård has repeatedly shown his support for the people of Gaza on his social media, as well as his commitment to Thunberg's previous attempts to sail to Gaza.
Among the other figures featured in the video is Irish "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham.
