The Green Party of Sweden has proposed dismantling the Swedish Transport Administration to establish a new authority focused solely on railways. This move aims to address infrastructure issues and improve railway management. Additionally, the party suggests introducing a nationwide travel card and affordable electric car leasing to promote sustainable transportation.

Green Party Proposes Overhaul of Swedish Transport Authority
The Green Party of Sweden recently delivered its summer speech, presenting an early election promise: to dismantle the Swedish Transport Administration and establish a new authority dedicated entirely to railways.
– Swedes deserve better. Sweden's railway needs a responsible expert authority that focuses solely on the railway, said spokesperson Daniel Helldén.
Part of the summer speech, held in a park in Södermalm, Stockholm, was dedicated to Swedish infrastructure and the summer's train chaos, which the Green Party attributes partly to a poorly organized authority.
– Roads are prioritized at the expense of railways when they compete against each other, the authority is drowning in administration, and it has lost both focus and competence, Helldén continued.
The Green Party therefore wants to create two separate authorities responsible for railways and roads, respectively.
Introducing a Nationwide Travel Card
Amanda Lind also made promises for Sweden's travelers: the Green Party wants to introduce a nationwide travel card – a monthly pass allowing unlimited public transport in all cities for 500 SEK.
Residents in rural areas where cars are necessary will be offered the opportunity to lease an electric car for 1,500 SEK per month.
– Including all costs, this equates to a petrol price of under five SEK per liter, said the spokesperson.
Ideological Blinders
The Green Party also criticized the government's migration policy and the decision to remove the so-called track change, where working asylum seekers, upon rejection of their asylum application, have the opportunity to apply for a work permit instead.
– This means that people who have been working, paying taxes, and are part of society for years, are now to be deported. With ideological blinders, the Tidö parties are pushing their strict migration policy to the point of absurdity, despite protests from unions and the entire business community, said Amanda Lind.
