Gang Leader David Berntsen Lundin Captured After Prison Escape

The two men who escaped from Borås prison have been found. Both are now in police custody.

Early Sunday, an alert was issued about two individuals escaping from Borås prison. The escapees were identified as gang leader David Berntsen Lundin and a 29-year-old man. They climbed over several fences to make their escape.

By 3 PM on Monday, police announced that the two men had been located.

Still in Prison Attire

At 2 PM, police received a tip from the public, suspecting the men were in Bollebygds center.

– When the police arrived to investigate, it turned out to be them. They were still wearing the prison's clothes and hadn't changed, said Thomas Fuxborg, police spokesperson.

The apprehension was peaceful, according to the police.

The men are now being taken to the nearest detention center for questioning before being transported back to the prison. They are not being investigated for any crime related to the escape.

– Escaping is not a crime, said Thomas Fuxborg.

Serving Lengthy Sentences

Both men are serving lengthy prison sentences. Berntsen Lundin holds a leading role in Gothenburg's criminal scene and is sentenced to 17 years and 10 months for incitement to attempted murder and bombings.

On Sunday, the police issued a wanted notice and published a photo of Berntsen but not the 29-year-old.

– That's a decision we've made. I can't elaborate on why, said Magnus Schildt, police duty officer on Monday.

The other man is convicted of arson.

Reports: Faked Epilepsy

The men were placed in a detention center at the time of the escape, not the main prison. It was a temporary detention pavilion, according to Expressen.

According to TV4 News, another inmate faked an epileptic seizure just before the escape. The two men then climbed onto scaffolding and over the fence.

The police have not commented on these reports.
