Fridolina Rolfö's Comeback: A Glimmer of Hope for Sweden Ahead of the Euros
Fridolina Rolfö is racing against time to be fit for the European Championship. During the warm-up match against Norway, the injured star appeared without crutches or protective gear.
"So far, it looks good," says head coach Peter Gerhardsson.
Sweden played a Euro warm-up match against Norway on Thursday evening, with Fridolina Rolfö watching from the sidelines.
In the Nations League match against Denmark on June 3, Rolfö was forced to leave the field with a foot injury, reportedly a ligament issue, putting her participation in the Euros in doubt.
The 31-year-old has not trained with the team during the camp in Åhus this week. Instead, she has been undergoing further examinations elsewhere.
When Rolfö appeared at Ullevål, she did so without crutches and without any protection on her injured left foot.
Included in the Squad Against Norway: "Positive"
After Sweden's victory, head coach Peter Gerhardsson revealed that Rolfö was included in the squad against Norway.
"We conducted tests to see if she could be included or not. When I returned, I received some information, and we had a meeting last night here in Oslo. Everything was positive, so we could include her."
"We have bought ourselves time. So far, it looks good, which is why we included her in the squad."
However, it remains uncertain whether Fridolina Rolfö will be part of the final Euro squad. A decision must be made 24 hours before the opener against Denmark. This means that reserve Matilda Vinberg will travel to Switzerland.
"Now it's continued medical progression, and the medical team is still involved. Matilda will be with us. We will know 24 hours before Denmark," says Gerhardsson, continuing:
"But this was the first thing we wanted to get a proper answer on, so we had something to go on."
