Fredrik Holmberg Appointed as New Director General of Lantmäteriet

Fredrik Holmberg is the new Director General of Lantmäteriet, taking over from Susanne Ås Sivborg, who was dismissed following an investigation by Expressen.

Fredrik Holmberg has been appointed as the new head of the agency. He is a jurist and previously served as Deputy Director at the Swedish Tax Agency.

– I am pleased that Fredrik Holmberg has accepted the role of Director General and head of Lantmäteriet. The agency plays a central role in the urban development process. With his solid knowledge, strong leadership, and extensive experience in public administration, I am confident that Fredrik Holmberg will be able to lead Lantmäteriet's operations forward in the best possible way, says Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson (KD) in a press release.

Former Director General Dismissed

In December, the government announced that Lantmäteriet's Director General Susanne Ås Sivborg was dismissed.

The government no longer had confidence in her.

The announcement came after an investigation by Expressen revealed how she had concealed and ignored warnings that defense secrets and protected personal data were available in open archives, which the agency's commercial customers had direct access to.

The agency's own security protection chief had already urged her in 2023 to shut down the archive without result.

Susanne Ås Sivborg's handling of the issue also led to open conflict within the agency, and several senior managers chose to resign.

Holmberg assumes his position immediately, taking over from the acting Director General Nils Svartz.
