Henrik Landerholm firmly denies the allegations against him, according to his lawyer, Johan Eriksson.
"We deny everything," says Eriksson.
The trial against the former national security advisor Henrik Landerholm begins on Monday and is expected to last three days. Landerholm is charged with negligence involving classified information after leaving several documents at a retreat in March 2023.
Many testimonies will be heard behind closed doors. However, a preliminary witness hearing was held on Friday with Petra Lärke, former chief of staff to Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M).
Lärke, now Sweden's ambassador to Moldova, cannot attend the trial days, so a deposition was conducted with her at Attunda District Court.
When Landerholm arrived at the court, he declined to comment but appeared relaxed and smiling.
His lawyer, Johan Eriksson, states that Landerholm denies any wrongdoing.
"I assert that he has not acted negligently in the manner required. It requires conscious negligence. I claim that the documents or information themselves do not pose any threat to national security as the prosecutor alleges. So, we can say that we deny everything," Eriksson tells TT.
"Classified information is one thing, but we dispute that the information is classified in the manner the prosecutor claims," he continues.
The main hearing in the case is scheduled to begin this Monday, August 18.
Landerholm resigned in January this year. Besides the incident at the retreat, which the indictment concerns, it has also emerged that he once forgot a notebook at Sveriges Radio and also left his mobile phone at the Hungarian embassy.
