Fatal Shooting Outside Örebro Mosque Sparks Police Manhunt

Police Respond to Örebro Shooting

Be aware – but not afraid. This is how the police summarize the situation following Friday's fatal shooting in Örebro. No arrests have been made yet.

An intense manhunt is still ongoing for the person who shot and killed a man in his 20s and injured a man in his 30s outside the mosque in Örebro on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, media reported a third injured person, a claim denied by the police on Saturday morning.

– That information is incorrect, says police spokesperson Lars Hedelin.

Be Aware but Not Afraid

The deceased man held a leading position in a criminal gang, according to reports to P4 Örebro. The police confirm that the two individuals shot had network connections but declined to comment further.

How do you view the risk of retaliatory actions?

– We are considering all possibilities and risks surrounding this, of course. I can't go into details about our operations, but given the environment, we are aware of the risks, says Lars Hedelin.

There were up to 1,000 people at the Friday prayer in the Örebro mosque, and many heard or witnessed the shooting. Several attempted to assist the injured men.

The mosque remained closed for the rest of Friday, but on Saturday, it was announced that it would be open over the weekend.

Lars Hedelin states that the investigation on Saturday is extensive, with significant resources allocated. Although no one has been arrested, the police have "material to work with," he says, urging calm.

– Naturally, one should be aware and observant, but there is no need to walk around in fear, says Lars Hedelin.

– Life should continue as usual.

Shooting After Friday Prayers

The first reports of gunfire at the mosque in the Vivalla district came at 13:44 on Friday. The shooting occurred in the mosque's parking lot. At least one person was reportedly seen leaving the scene.

The police are investigating murder, attempted murder, and serious weapons offenses.
