"We assume something exploded, causing the car to explode," says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson.
Police were alerted to Östberga in southern Stockholm around 9 PM on Friday after several calls from people who heard a loud bang.
"We live on the other side of Årstafältet, and our whole house shook," says a person who heard the explosion to Expressen.
According to the police, a car exploded on the street in the residential area.
"We assume something exploded, causing the car to explode," says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson.
Police Hunt Underway
A large-scale response involving police, fire services, and ambulances is on the scene. It is still unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.
"We are currently trying to find out," says Mats Eriksson.
A hunt is underway for the perpetrator or perpetrators. Police are speaking with witnesses on the scene about what happened.
