A skydiver was forced into a hard landing on a golf course in Västerås around noon on Friday. The man is undergoing emergency surgery and has life-threatening injuries.
Two golfers witnessed the accident and called emergency services, according to the golf club's manager speaking to VLT.
A patient injury report from Region Västmanland confirms the skydiver's injuries are life-threatening, and he is undergoing emergency surgery.
Anna Oscarsson, communications officer at the Swedish Parachute Association, stated that the man is a "very experienced jumper." He was participating in a Swedish Championship event currently taking place in Västerås and was jumping with nine others.
"He experienced a malfunction with his parachute. I don't know exactly what happened, but the parachute got tangled somehow and didn't fly as it should. He landed very hard and not on the field where he was supposed to land, but on the golf course."
Anna Oscarsson also mentioned that the championship events continue despite the accident.
In mid-August, two skydivers died after colliding in the air.
