European Postal Services Halt Shipments to the USA

Several European countries' postal services are temporarily stopping shipments to the USA. The reason is new tariffs and customs regulations announced by US President Donald Trump.

Trump's administration has announced that from August 29, a tax exemption on small packages entering the USA will be abolished. This has prompted postal companies across Europe to react.

DHL, which owns the postal service in Germany, will pause its standard package category to the USA starting Saturday, an option many small businesses have used.

"Important questions remain unanswered, including who will pay the tariffs and how," DHL stated in a release.

French La Poste will pause shipments to the USA from Monday, except for gifts from individuals valued under 100 euros. According to La Poste, European postal services have been given "an extremely limited timeframe to prepare." Each year, 1.6 million packages are sent from France to the USA, 80 percent of which are from businesses.

Swedish Postnord will temporarily pause certain goods shipments to the USA and Puerto Rico starting Saturday. Letters not containing goods are not affected.

Posti in Finland will also stop shipments from Saturday. Posti announced that this also applies to letter shipments, which often consist of official or business documents. Customers can still send mail via other options.

Postal services in Belgium, Austria, and Denmark have also taken similar measures.
