European Flight Strikes: Impact on Swedish Travelers

Flight strikes are occurring simultaneously across several parts of Europe, potentially causing a chaotic Saturday for air travelers in countries like Italy and Spain.

Strikes are expected to break out at several European airports around lunchtime on Saturday.

In Italy, staff in cities such as Milan, Rome, Florence, and Venice will strike between 1 PM and 5 PM. Airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet are affected, reports Euronews.

In Portugal, ground staff at Menzies Aviation will strike, particularly impacting Lisbon Airport. In Spain, employees of the airline Volotea are involved, which could lead to disruptions across the country.

The strikes are driven by demands for improved working conditions and increased job security.

Tui: Possible Delays

On Saturday morning, travel company Tui is assessing the potential impact of the strikes on travelers.

"The situation varies across Europe depending on who is striking. Our staff and pilots are not striking, so we currently do not know the full impact," says communications manager Adam Györki.

Tui has over 800 Swedish travelers in Italy, mostly in the southern parts of the country. If any trips are affected, the company will contact the affected customers.

"There could be delays, but we don't know how significant. We don't know how long it will last, but as long as the strikes continue," says Adam Györki.

Responses from Travel Companies

SAS does not expect major consequences from the strike.

"There might be minor delays on a handful of flights; preliminary information suggests 3-4 flights," says communications manager Rikard Steinholtz.

The affected flights depart from Copenhagen and Oslo, not Sweden, but Rikard Steinholtz notes that this could change.

Ving and Apollo both report that they are not affected by the strike.

"I haven't heard that it will affect our flights at all. But there could be delays or people needing to be rebooked," says Charlotte Hallencreutz from Ving.
